Handy Car Detailing Tips

Are you starved for tips and tricks regarding car detailing? You can now rest easy. This article has lots of stuff on the matter worth knowing. Pay attention and heed each titbit carefully. Below is some information you might find extremely useful.

If you’ve got a freshly painted or repainted car, inquire with the guy who did the paint job about the lifespan of the wax applied on the car. Newly applied coats must be cured initially to allow for the dissipation of solvents, which is part of the detailing process. Accidentally applying wax when the paint isn’t “cured” yet will cause the wax to interfere with the whole dissipation process. New cars don’t have this issue to deal with since car owners can opt not to wait for the waxing to be performed because paint on newly purchased cars is cured within the car manufacturer’s factory ovens.

When cleaning the car’s interior or exterior glass, use vertical motions to wipe the outside and horizontal ones for the inside. Using such motions makes cleaning more effective. In this way, it’s easier to determine which side is streaked or has signs of it.

For inspecting the car finish, consider using a photographer’s loupe. They’re capable of magnifying setups of glass so they are at the distance provided on the surface or top. This affords a deeper insight into the paint job that was done, allowing you to note more closely what isn’t ordinarily seen.

Upon seeing bird droppings, deal with them immediately. Their contents are harmful to car paint. This also explains the importance of waxing the car as it protects the car from such damage. Remember: car detailing is always priority number one.

What about washing windshield wipers? Use the sponge’s mitt part that’s reserved for applying stuff that’s harsh on surfaces. If you applied dressing treatments to the windshields, they would last a bit longer. It’s good to wipe off excess treatment residue to avoid it drying on the surface. Take care of windshield wipers upon detailing. After all, they’re a huge help during the snow and rain so it’s good to maintain them in tiptop order.

For the antenna’s mast, stick with graphite oil. A graphite coating makes elevating and lowering more efficient, minus any blockages. This in turn improves the reliability of the electric unit. Do this so the car antenna is easy to manipulate.

Application of spray products should be done on a piece of cloth instead of on the surface undergoing treatment. Smudges from useless spray parts are prevented by doing this. You also avoid spraying adjacent areas that could become an added concern and contribute to your workload. See to it that the cloth used is soft and gentle enough that scratches remain unnoticeable.

With well-detailed cars, license plate frames, bumper stickers, decals and other distracting items are discouraged. Such things only take away from the vehicle’s overall features. They also give the appearance of a car that doesn’t have good detailing work – and who wants that? The bottom line: take care of your car and it will deliver performance that will stay great for years.

Seasonal Car Detailing Tips

It’s no secret that Calgary’s winters are hard on automobiles. The constant fluctuation of temperature, melting/freezing roadways, road salt, gravel, and sand, combined with the sheer size of the city in general, make Calgary an absolute hell for your car. All it takes is one winter to remove that shine from the paint, and after a couple winters your car will appear to have lost all of its lustre- heaven forbid you park on a street or parking lot instead of underground parking or a garage!

Did you know that, aside from washing your car, there are things you can do to get its paint back in tip top shape, and that you can recondition your cars interior to the point where it looks brand new? You can have a professional car detailer do it, or if you’d rather invest your own time and energy, you could do it yourself.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Exterior Car Detailing in Calgary

If you want to bring the life back to your paint, try some of the following:

* DO: Give your car a thorough wash every 10 days or so during the winter (except during cold spells).
* DON’T: Wash your car with the tire brush at the car wash. It can actually scratch your paint!
* DO: Once winter is over, give your car a thorough wash and apply a coat of wax to the paint. Follow the instructions on the wax bottle and you’ll be fine.
* DON’T: Ignore paint chips because it’s winter. The combination of moisture, bare paint, and road salt will cause your car to rust quicker than you’d think!
* DO: Have some clear paint protection film installed. The investment will easily pay for itself over time.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Interior Car Detailing in Calgary

Is your car interior looking a little worn? Try the following:

* DO: Use a high suction vacuum on all carpeted areas in your car.
* DON’T: Vacuum your dash, instrument cluster, or electronics.
* DO: Use a shampoo mixture to remove stains from your carpet.
* DON’T: Use bleach on, in, or anywhere near your cars interior.
* DO: Shampoo the seats if they’re cloth, or use a leather conditioner for leather.
* DON’T: Use glass cleaner on anything other than glass.
* DO: Take the time to do it right. A good interior clean could take several hours.
* DON’T: Try to cut corners. Cutting corners always results in shoddy workmanship and poor-quality results.

Car Detailing is all About the Little Things

Being thorough in your cleaning process will ensure that your car never smells odd, dirties your clothes with you use it, etc. A good interior clean should only be required a couple of times per year, and if you maintain your clean-up job year round, will ensure that your vehicle looks and feels great for many years to come.

Car Detailing Tips

A Porsche service center or Audi dealer can perform a thorough detailing of your car without causing damage to the finish. But if you are considering detailing your own car, rather than taking it to your Audi dealership, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Here are five of the most important things to keep in mind when detailing your car.

Get the proper supplies.

It may cost anywhere between $30 and $70 for quality detailing products. Your Audi dealer or Porsche service center likely already has these products on hand. For the do-it-yourself types, here are some of the basics:

Multiple microfiber cloths or mitts: Use different cloths for different parts of the car; you don’t want wax from the body of the car smearing up the windows, or grit from the wheels scratching your paint.

Auto detailing soap: Don’t settle for dish detergent, as it can be too harsh and harm the finish.

A toothbrush: A toothbrush is great for removing debris such as leaves and bugs from the small cracks and crevices of your car.

Cotton Swabs: These are handy for cleaning out things such as coin holders and other places where gunk accumulates.

Use two buckets.

A good Porsche service professional will tell you that using two buckets can save you a lot of time. This helps you avoid reintroducing grime onto your car’s surface with dirty suds.

An Audi dealer will often recommend also using separate cloths for the top and bottom of the car. The beltline is the mid-point between the top and bottom of the car; most road grime accumulates below this line.

Clean in the correct order.

To prevent getting parts of the car you just cleaned dirty again, work in the same order that your Audi dealership or Porsche service specialist does:

1. Interior. This will help prevent getting dirt or dust on the outside of the car while cleaning the carpets.

2. Wheels, roof, windows, hood and trunk. Wash the wheels first, as this is likely the dirtiest part of the car. Then, with a different rag or mitt, take care of the roof, then the hood, and then the trunk. Rinse from top to bottom. For the “sheet rinsing” effect, shield the nozzle from touching the surface of your car with your fingers to prevent scratching, while holding the nozzle within an inch or two of the surface. Wash the fenders and doors. Re-rinse the entire car, and wait for it to dry completely before moving on to the final step.

3. Polish and wax. Finally, apply polish and wax. The polish should be used first to bring out the color in any oxidized spots.

While having a clean car is a reward in itself, it also helps maintain the vehicle’s resale value should you decide to trade it in at your Audi dealership one day. So if you will be doing the job yourself instead of taking it to your Audi dealer or Porsche Service center for detailing, follow these tips to get the job done right with minimal damage.
