Handy Car Detailing Tips

Are you starved for tips and tricks regarding car detailing? You can now rest easy. This article has lots of stuff on the matter worth knowing. Pay attention and heed each titbit carefully. Below is some information you might find extremely useful.

If you’ve got a freshly painted or repainted car, inquire with the guy who did the paint job about the lifespan of the wax applied on the car. Newly applied coats must be cured initially to allow for the dissipation of solvents, which is part of the detailing process. Accidentally applying wax when the paint isn’t “cured” yet will cause the wax to interfere with the whole dissipation process. New cars don’t have this issue to deal with since car owners can opt not to wait for the waxing to be performed because paint on newly purchased cars is cured within the car manufacturer’s factory ovens.

When cleaning the car’s interior or exterior glass, use vertical motions to wipe the outside and horizontal ones for the inside. Using such motions makes cleaning more effective. In this way, it’s easier to determine which side is streaked or has signs of it.

For inspecting the car finish, consider using a photographer’s loupe. They’re capable of magnifying setups of glass so they are at the distance provided on the surface or top. This affords a deeper insight into the paint job that was done, allowing you to note more closely what isn’t ordinarily seen.

Upon seeing bird droppings, deal with them immediately. Their contents are harmful to car paint. This also explains the importance of waxing the car as it protects the car from such damage. Remember: car detailing is always priority number one.

What about washing windshield wipers? Use the sponge’s mitt part that’s reserved for applying stuff that’s harsh on surfaces. If you applied dressing treatments to the windshields, they would last a bit longer. It’s good to wipe off excess treatment residue to avoid it drying on the surface. Take care of windshield wipers upon detailing. After all, they’re a huge help during the snow and rain so it’s good to maintain them in tiptop order.

For the antenna’s mast, stick with graphite oil. A graphite coating makes elevating and lowering more efficient, minus any blockages. This in turn improves the reliability of the electric unit. Do this so the car antenna is easy to manipulate.

Application of spray products should be done on a piece of cloth instead of on the surface undergoing treatment. Smudges from useless spray parts are prevented by doing this. You also avoid spraying adjacent areas that could become an added concern and contribute to your workload. See to it that the cloth used is soft and gentle enough that scratches remain unnoticeable.

With well-detailed cars, license plate frames, bumper stickers, decals and other distracting items are discouraged. Such things only take away from the vehicle’s overall features. They also give the appearance of a car that doesn’t have good detailing work – and who wants that? The bottom line: take care of your car and it will deliver performance that will stay great for years.

The car detailing clay bar is now the most recommended way to clean and smooth rough, contaminated paint. It’s a car cleaning product that quickly replaced traditional pre-wax paint polishes, and for good reason. It’s fast and easy to use, but it’s also more effective on modern clear coat paint finishes.

One of the most misunderstood facts about the detailing clay bar is how it does its job. It’s not uncommon to see product descriptions that include a comment like: “…pulls contamination off of your paint…” This is misleading, yes, but it’s also a bit ridiculous. After all, the cleaning process requires clay lubrication, such as soapy water. Have you ever tried to pull on something that’s lubricated?

The “pulls contamination off of your car” myth was invented to keep from explaining the facts about the paint cleaner. The reality is that a claybar is an abrasive. It accomplishes its job by wearing away the bonded contamination with paint-safe abrasives. Don’t be alarmed. When used as directed it’s beneficial, not harmful, to your car. That’s because the soapy lubrication allows it to slip and slide over painted, glass and smooth metal surfaces without damage.

The patents on this amazing pre-wax paint cleaner clearly describes that it’s a blend of polybutene (that’s the clay-like substance) and fine abrasives. U.S. Patent No. 5,727,993 talks about several elements that are used together to make the cleaning process work. Here’s the quote:

“A method of polishing a protrusion or stain from a surface comprising; applying a plastic flexible tool to the surface, the plastic flexible tool comprising a plastic flexible material having mixed therewith an abrasive comprising grains from about 3 to 50 m in diameter and; applying a force to the plastic flexible tool such that a polishing force per area is applied by the plastic flexible tool to a protrusion or stain on the surface, and such that the amount of force per area applied to the surface is less than the amount of force per area applied to the protrusion or stain.”

One way to understand how the cleaning action works is to imaging the bar as nothing more than a selective paint polish. The tool’s job is to remove bonded contamination without polishing the hard surface. It simply abrades away the dirt and grime then floats over the hard surface on the lubrication. That’s what make it better than a traditional polish. A traditional polish removes fine layers of paint as it cleans.

The final result of the cleaning action is visible on the working surface of the claybar. Most of the bonded contamination transfers to the clay as a black or brown grunge. To prevent scratching, you simply fold the bar, dirty side in, and then re-flatten to reveal a clean surface. Once the clay becomes completely dirty you will need to replace it with a new one. The bar cannot be cleaned.

While investigating what makes one formulation different from another, I learned that the manufacturers have control over the firmness, the size and type of abrasives used, the concentration of abrasives, and the color. Unfortunately, color was never used to identify different grades or types, so don’t be fooled into thinking that one color is the same as another.

Most of the consumer brands available, including Meguiar’s, Mothers Polishes and Turtle Wax, are very mild and will not harm your car. You can use these brands of detailing clay a couple times a year with no issues.

The clay bar is the fast, easy and modern way to keep your vehicle’s paint clean, smooth and contamination free. It’s available online or at your local auto parts store.

Car wash equipment that uses hot or very hot water for cleaning is more versatile than machines that use just cold water. Pressure washers that heat water to as much as 330°F enhance the productivity of the car wash process in many ways:

* Removing Grease: Car parts tend to get very grimy and greasy due to the constant fumes and burning of fuel in the engine. Engine maintenance without appropriate tools such as high-quality car wash equipment is very difficult. High temperature pressure washers dissolve and wash away grease, burned fuels, and grime.

* Removing Snow and Frost: There is no faster way to melt snow, ice, and frost from cars than using car wash equipment that generates very high temperatures.

* Interior and Exterior Cleaning: Car washing equipment cleans inner and outer surfaces of cars as long as you use the right machines. Pressure washers are used for cleaning the outer surfaces, while a portable steam cleaner maybe used for cleaning dashboards, steering wheels, dashboard compartments, and so on.

Heat dissolves grease, organic matter, chewing gum, and similar substances faster than other methods. Using car detailing equipment that utilizes steam or heated water speeds up the cleaning process. Cold water hardens grease and dirt unless copious amounts of very harsh detergents are used.

Removing dirt from tires, doors, windows, and engines without damaging the surface requires the use of top-quality car wash equipment specifically designed for such tasks. A pressure washer should be powerful enough to remove dirt and gentle enough not to harm the surface below. Auto detailing pressure washers have pressure levels of 750 psi to 1500 psi to clean cars completely without denting or stripping the paint. Some of these car detailing machines are designed to be low flow, using a fraction of the water used by conventional auto detailing products.

If you run a mobile car wash business, you should purchase a machine that can be fitted on a trailer and transported to work sites. Fixed-location businesses can use either a stationary or mobile car wash machines. A stationary unit equipped with two operator trigger guns increases efficiency.

Interior Detailing

A portable steam cleaner is used for cleaning hard surfaces inside the vehicle, including floors and dashboards. Note that steam cleaners have a limited capacity when it comes to cleaning large or multiple carpets and upholstery. You will need a carpet cleaning machine for that.

A portable steam cleaner should be equipped with a variety of brushes for easier handling of the cleaning process. An example of this may be that a nylon brush is best for cleaning the dashboard. Many mobile car wash steam cleaners have a HEPA filter to remove pollen, dust, pet hair, dust mites, and other allergens from the surface, while an anti-bacterial mechanism helps remove most germs from the surface.

Car detailing machines, if chosen with care, offer good service and last for a long period of time. In addition, these machines help businesses increase their output while cutting down on nonproductive tasks.
